Maureen started taking aerial yoga at Purenergy in 2019 and immediately fell in love with the mix of relaxing yoga poses and exciting tricks! She became certified to teach adult and children classes in 2023 and loves seeing others challenge themselves (mentally and physically) with new ways to move their bodies.
Her classes are a mix of traditional yoga poses with support from the silks and silly tricks and drops that make class feel more like playtime!
Aerial Yoga uses a soft fabric hammock to allow the student to get deeper into traditional yoga poses or assist with poses, such as inversions, that otherwise may take years to accomplish. The body is fully or partially supported to assist or gain strength in stabilizing muscles that normally would not be challenged as much. The core is deeply challenged allow the body to move in space. Deep tissue massage is one of the many benefits of the hanging poses in areas of the body that hold onto tension, such as hips & shoulders. Benefits of inversions in a pose like sacrum wrap, include traction & decompression of the spine & increased circulation to the brain.
Students will learn to work with and feel gravity to discover a natural release, realign the body, and center the mind.

As an adult, the inversions and poses feel great and give a nice stretch. As a kid, flipping upside down is lots of fun and the hammock provides support to do this safely. Your child will learn how to flip, balance, and spin with control over their body. Many poses allow for choice whether you want to spin and invert, or not, so it’s great for all levels and abilities. While it is not required for you to join your child in class, this family class would allow you and your child to practice and play together!
